What makes up your respiratory system is that is, one of the most vital organs in your body. The lungs are a pair of spongy, air-filled organs located on either side of the chest (thorax). The trachea (windpipe) conducts inhaled air into the lungs through its tubular branches, called bronchi. The bronchi then divide into smaller and smaller branches (bronchioles), finally becoming microscopic. The lungs are covered by a thin tissue layer called the pleura. The same kind of thin tissue lines the inside of the chest cavity — also called pleura. A thin layer of fluid acts as a lubricant allowing the lungs to slip smoothly as they expand and contract with each breath. The following lung diagrams exhibit other side of the lungs that you can observe.

Well, the lungs also provide us with the air we need in order to speak, laugh at jokes, and sing. It is divided into different parts which are called lobes. The right lung has three lobes called upper, middle and lower lobes. The left lung only has two lobes, the upper and lower. The lungs’ main function is to help oxygen from the air we breathe enter the red cells in the blood. Red blood cells then carry oxygen around the body to be used in the cells found in our body. The lungs also help the body to get rid of CO2 gas when we breathe out. And when you have problems with your lungs, see your doctor and have a thorough examination because look at the following lung cancer picture, it’s too terrible to even imagine having something like this inside our body!
