As one of the most vital human organs, the heart has a role to pump the blood, which carries all the vital materials which help our bodies function and removes the waste products that we do not need. If the heart ever ceases to pump blood the body begins to shut down and after a very short period of time will die. These diagrams of human heart showcase you how the heart pumps blood and you learn about the chambers as well.

There are four chambers and an equal number of valves of a human heart. The two chambers at the top of the heart are known as the atria, a right, and a left. The two bottom chambers are the ventricles. The heart wall consists of three layers: the outer epicardium, the middle myocardium, and the inner endocardium. The epicardium and endocardium are thin layers. The myocardium forms the main bulk of the heart and is made up of cardiac muscle fibers. The outermost layer that surrounds the entire heart is called the pericardium.
