T–s diagram is used in thermodynamics to visualize changes to temperature and specific entropy during a thermodynamic process or cycle. It is a useful and common tool, particularly because it helps to visualize the heat transfer during a process. For reversible (ideal) processes, the area under the T–s curve of a process is the heat transferred to the system during that process. These diagrams used to show how a change in entropy can affect the temperature of a pure substance when that substance is kept at a constant pressure or specific volume. Take a look at the ammonia and refrigeration TS diagram below.

If a T-s diagram is used to represent the process, the area under the curve will represent the heat transfer that took place during the process. An isentropic process is depicted as a vertical line on a T-s diagram, whereas an isothermal process is a horizontal line. In an idealized state, compression is a pump, compression in a compressor and expansion in a turbine are isentropic processes. Therefore it is very useful in power engineering, because these devices are used in thermodynamic cycles of power plants.
